Out of Africa

Warm colors, impressions of Africa as we imagine it when we talk about Africa. Warm, colorful, exotic nature and people. Taste this atmosphere during the exhibition Out of Africa….from June 10th, 2012 at Coenraad Art Gallery in Zandvoort. The grand opening will be performed by the Consul General of Angola, musically framed by Ngoma drums on the Bakongo rhythms.

The exhibited paintings are made by the Angolan Elizabeth Fatima da Costa Bondo alias Mayamba. Since 1993 she lives in the Netherlands. Her style is expressive-figurative, with attention to contrast in the composition. She puts her scenario down firmly, colorful with translucency and great thinking. She feels that her art should incorporate the ‘x factor’, a combination of heat and mysticism is often elusive to the eye. She does not want to  stick to one topic. Her imagination is too immense for that. From flowers to human forms of life. From bright, fresh colors to shades of brown with lots of light. The colors of Mother Nature. In 2005 and 2008 she participated in the nationwide competition “Talenspalet” and in 2005 was classified in the preliminaries in the Horn region. Her work, an excerpt from the book of Hafid Bouazza “Para Vion,” hung the whole summer of 2005 in the CODA Museum in Apeldoorn.

Besides being a visual artist, she is a poet, dancer and percussionist. She is also very involved with her country of origin. Thus, she founded the Foundation Palanka Negra having goals to support projects in the area of poverty reduction in Africa. MDG 1 (the substantial reduction of poverty in the world). The situation of women and children to help improve them with the necessities of life. Information and education of children and young mothers to provide. MDG 2 (universal primary education). In this light, a percentage of the proceeds from the sale of her paintings will go towards the Foundation Palanka Negra.

The exhibition can be seen uptil and including  July 29th, 2012, on Thursday – Sunday, 14.00 – 18.00 hrs.
